Orion and the Dark

Think about the dark as a setting. How would Orion describe it? How do you feel about it?
1. Create an image of the dark by drawing or painting.
2. Brainstorm a list of adjectives to describe the dark. Label you image.
What does it look like? How does it sound? How does it feel?
Fill in the adjectives to describe the dark using your five senses:

Grammar focus: Contractions
Contractions are when two words are squished together. Remember, the apostrophe replaces the missing letters. For example, do not becomes don't. The o is gone and there is an apostrophe there instead.

Geography Activity: Under the Canopy
Listen to the sounds of the rainforest.
1. What sounds can you identify?
2. Can you sort the sounds into groups? e.g. birds, animals, natural sounds.
3. What is a canopy?
Living in the canopy means you can’t see a lot of what’s going on – there are a lot of leaves in the way, so some animals rely heavily on sound. This means they need to listen to sounds to help them around the rainforest.
They call to each other and can recognise when another of their species is calling back. For example, birds know the difference between their tweeting sounds and another bird's tweeting sounds.
