Reading

This week we are reading...

Charlie Cook's Favourite Book by Julia Donaldson

Charlie Cook's Favourite Book

Reading Task

This story has a wonderful rhythm to it. This is because it has rhyming words. Rhyming words are words that sound similar because they have the same ending.

BBC Rhyming Words

KS1 Rhyme with Radzi

Look in a Book: Rhyme Time

For example on the page above I found:

cook and book

Can you go listen to or read the story and find all the rhyming words?

Write a list of them.

Challenge: Using your list, can you find any more words that rhyme with the words you found?

For example:

cook and book and look and shook

Writing Task

Today I would like you to get creative!

In our story, there are lots of stories (very confusing, I know!) I would like you to choose one of the characters and plan your own story all about that character.

Have another watch, listen and read of the book and think about who you think the most interesting character is.

Where do they live?

What are they doing?

Where are they going?

Are they up to no good or going on a heroic adventure?

For example:

My favourite character is the knight. He lives in a fairy tale land far, far away. He thought that he was brave enough to fight a dragon so set off to save a princess from a guarded tower. However, when he saw the dragon he was too scared and decided to read to the dragon instead of fight him!

Can you create a story map or a story mountain for your story?

Send pictures of your story plans to dwarner@sfdprimary.co.uk

Special Task

Life size drawing

Today your special task is to create a life size drawing of yourself!

You will need:

sheets of paper to stick together to make them as tall and wide as you

a pencil or pen

anything you want to decorate with (could be paints, chalk, crayons or just a pencil for drawing your features)

Instructions:

First, lie down on the paper.

Next, get your siblings or parent/carer to draw around your shape.

After that, have a look at your outline and then look in the mirror. What do you need to add?

Then, add all your features e.g your eyes, nose, fingernails etc and draw and colour your clothes and shoes too!

Finally, decorate your lifesize drawing however you like!

You could use different materials to make extra accessories like hairbands (scrap cloth), earrings (tin foil) or even more crazy additions such as a hat or a mask! It is entirely up to you!

If you have chalk, you could even have a go at doing it outside too!

Please send me in all your lovely drawings as I would love to see them!
