Map of Manaus
Yesterday, you described one of the settings in our story Journey to the River Sea. Today, you are going to use a map of Manaus to create a map of 'Maia's world' in Brazil. I would like you to draw a map and label all of the places in Brazil that we have read about and that Maia has experienced so far. Here is a list of the settings we already know:
- The Amazon river
- Manaus town centre (including the Teatro Amazonas theatre, museum, dance school)
- The river Negro
- The Carters' house
- The huts behind the Carters' house
- The Amazon rainforest
- The streams that run behind the Carters house to Manaus
- The Native Brazilian (Indian) village
You might like to use little symbols to draw an icon of each place on the map. For example, you might draw the hut like this:
Remember, the Carters' house is about 1 hour up the river Negro by boat. So think about how far away that might be from the Manaus city centre. Then, think about where the huts might be positioned in relation to the house. After that, think about where the streams and the Amazon Rainforest is and so on.
If you would like to re-read though previous chapters to find information about the settings, here is everything we have read so far.
